White Fillings

White Fillings

Composite fillings are a strong, safe, and natural-looking alternative to metal (amalgam) fillings. These fillings are composed of a white plastic substance and a hardening agent. Unlike metallic fillings, composite fillings strengthen the tooth, blend flawlessly with the enamel, and preserve the natural tooth structure as much as possible. Amalgam fillings are generally not as advantageous as composite fillings because they demand more of a tooth removal, are susceptible to corrosion.

At Back Mountain Dental, Dr. DeFinnis only places composite fillings so if you have a cavity in a tooth or broken fillings or if your teeth are full of amalgam fillings you may want to ask Dr. DeFinnis about changing them to composite dental fillings. Amalgam fillings can easily be removed and replaced with far more attractive colored fillings.

Inlays and Onlays

Inlays and onlays are composite fillings (restorations) used in the back teeth. These restorations are crafted of tooth-colored porcelain that is sculpted to fill a cavity (onlays cover the top part of the tooth as well), thereby strengthening the tooth.
