Dr. DeFinnis
Dr. James C. DeFinnis with Roxy the newest addition to the Back Mountain Dental team. She’s a micro-bernedoodle (hypoallergenic and non-shedding) dog. She’s here to help ease the anxiety of coming to see us!!
Dr. James C. DeFinnis DMD is a well-known dentist in Scranton, PA. A Pennsylvania native, he was born and raised in Berwick, PA. After graduating from Berwick High School, he attended Bucknell University receiving his Bachelor of Science degree with a major in economics and a science minor. In 1999, he graduated from Temple University School of Dentistry. He now participates in continuing education courses on a regular basis that cover a variety of current procedures.
Dr. DeFinnis has studied under Dr. Frank Spear, the founder and director of the Spear Education in Scottsdale, Arizona, which focuses on esthetic and restorative dentistry. He is a member of the Spear Faculty Club, which is a select group of dentists who have completed the Spear Mastery Continuum, assist in, and mentor courses at the center.
Since opening his very successful Back Mountain Dental practice in 2000, Dr. DeFinnis takes pride in expanding his education in the areas that best serve the needs of his patients. His practice offers the best cutting edge technology in order to provide the most up-to-date options for general and cosmetic dental procedures. Sedation Dentistry For Pain Free Procedures
Dr. DeFinnis is also an IV sedation dentist providing the comfort of sedation dentistry to his patients who have a fear of dentists. Intravenous Sedation or dental IV sedation, is a medical technique that keeps patients comfortably sedated throughout their dental procedures. Dr. DeFinnis has been specially trained with postgraduate hospital-based residency training with multiple continuing education classes in conscious IV sedation. His office is equipped with the same advanced hospital equipment he was trained with to administer the sedation anesthesia.
IV sedation is similar to general anesthesia where the patient is asleep, except the patient is never fully asleep with “conscious” sedation. IV sedation dentistry uses monitored anesthesia care, so it is a very safe and effective means of completing complex dental treatments in one sitting with no pain, no anxiety, and even no memory of the procedure.
